Webcams: connecting you to others, and to coffee
The use of webcams is quite obvious: the camera, connected to your home computer, transmits the image from your computer to the internet and from the internet it can be accessed by the viewer through his or her home computer. And if the viewer owns his or her own webcam, then images can be sent back and forth between both users. They then have their own mini, live web conference. But the idea behind webcam technology did not come from the business world wishing to set up a venue for long-distance conferencing, nor was it developed for the government in order to communicate with foreign dignitaries or ambassadors across oceans and continents. Internet video camera technology was first created because of coffee, or more specifically because of a coffee pot.
