Finding Love in a Webcam: Can It Happen For You?
With the many, current advances in technology, it is no wonder that romance has also been addressed by these advances. Many remain skeptical, though, that romance and technology can be successfully fused together, but as thousands across the globe have experienced, romance fits in wherever it's welcomed. What I'm referring to, of course, is the internet and the home that romance has found within this expansive space. An impressive amount of people has come to rely upon the advantages that the web gives in meeting people and creating relationships. This includes emailing, blogging, chat rooms, and webcams. Each of these technologies has a number of similarities, but arguably the one with the most differences is the webcam. Do using webcams make romance in the online realm easier, or does it pose more challenges that what it's worth?
Webcams vs. Chatting
Webcams and chatting both share the advantage of allowing the user to communicate in real-time, unlike blogging and emailing. The main difference, obviously, is the medium employed by each: audio/video and text. There are both advocates for the webcam and for chatting, but what details are these individuals basing their opinions on? By focusing on a few key issues, I hope to help anyone who is questioning using one over the other.- What do you want? The first detail to consider when choosing either the webcam or chatting is, simply, what do you want. You may feel much more comfortable in expressing your feelings through the written word, instead of "face-to-face" through video. Or you may dislike the time that it takes to type what you wish to say, when a webcam will allow you to simply state what you mean in real-time. Another concern is privacy: chatting allows for a certain amount of privacy that using a webcam does not. For instance, when in a chat relationship you can give as many or as few details as you wish, keeping whatever you wish to yourself. A webcam, on the other hand, allows for some amount of privacy, but not nearly as much as chatting does. But for the webcam user, that could be exactly the reason they choose to use that technology for romance--the excitement of trusting the person on the other side of the screen.
- What is your style? Another detail to consider is the style you employ most in romance, and I'm not talking about your hairdo or your clothes. What I'm talking about it the way you interact with that special someone. For instance, are you more of a subtle flirter, or are you brash in your romantic gestures? Because it is text based, chatting usually suits those who enjoy subtlety over more overt styles of flirtation. Also, for those who are more laid back in relationships, and may be looking for autonomy in their romance, chatting allows for independence compared to romance via webcam. For example, when you need a break from a discussion, and you may just want to browse the web for a bit, it is much easier to break away from a chatting session rather than a webcam session--simply take fifteen or twenty minutes, minimize the text window, and browse away.
No matter what you choose, though, it's important to remember that romance and technology have been integrated very smoothly together, and because of that relationship it has never been a better time to look for romance on the web!
